In Memory

Please share your memories and stories of our friends and teachers who have passed away. Here's what others remember:

I've been thinking of Mr. Krysiak lately as I've become "addicted" (pun intended) to the Showtime series "Weeds." They play the "Little Boxes" song at the beginning of every episode.

I called Villa the other day to inquire about his welfare and was devastated to learn that he passed in 1991, within 2 years of my graduation in 1989. He was one of the absolute best teachers I've ever had. Hopefully more than a few of his students understood what he was getting at when he had us watch "Pygmalion" and listen to the "Little Boxes" song. I imagine it was something like, "There's a whole world out there beyond Staten Island, young ladies. Take advantage of it and work on your accents while you're at it." :-)

I also fondly remember him asking my sophomore class who we believed were the happiest people on earth. "The saints," he said.

If anyone has any info about how I can contact his family, please pass it on.

Sister Maura taught science and biology when i knew her at Dante Alighieri Academy, in Toronto. She was one of the sweetest people that i`ve ever known. It gives me great sorrow to find out that she passed away.

Thanks for the laughs Cathy. Homeroom wouldn't of been the same, for me, without you.

Who could ever forget how the teachers always confused me and Cathy. Even one incident back in college, one of the professors thought I was Cathy, it was kind of funny because I was never in his class. I would always see Cathy walking around campus, we would always greet each other. She was always a kind and sweet person. I'll never forget her.

I never had Mr. K as a teacher... but I remember passing him in the hall and thinking, thank GOD I'm in track 4. I'm sure he was harmless though.

Emily was in my classes all four years of Villa. I remember her telling me about all the wild parties she was at all weekend in Brooklyn and thinking to myself... and she seems so meek. I miss you Emily!

Remember in Freshman year when Mr. Krysiak would give us a demerit whenever we would say "like" and how he would catch us whenever we would say "but" at the end of a sentence. I don't think it worked but it was like a good try but.

I'm sure Joann Maffei can remember with me Sr. Maura's Anatomy and Physiology class. We took great pleasure in her "ditzyness" and how she almost got us lost in Manhattan on the subway during a field trip. But despite her unconventional ways, she had a good heart, and is definitely missed!

Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky-tacky. Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes all the same. There's a pink one, and a green one, and a blue one, and a yellow one. And they're all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same. And the people in the boxes like to drink their martinis dry and they all have pretty children and the children go to school. And the children go to summer camp and then to the University where they're all put into boxes and they come out just the same...
